Conspiracy theories, politics, and the end of civilisation as we know it.

For those of you who are lucky enough to be ignorant of British politics, the thing you need to know to understand this blog, is that there will be a nationwide referendum here on Thursday, to determine if we will remain part of the European Union, or leave to go it alone. This may seem a dry and academic subject to some of you, but it is likely to be, one way or another, an important watershed moment in British history. Before we deal with that, however, allow me to entertain you with the tales of three conspiracy theories.
I think I subconsciously hoped that I would never have to write this blog, and face the reality of the insane world of modern politics. This hope was inspired by a strange post that appeared on Zooty’s Facebook page. A guy that Zooty and I had met at a few social occasions, was disseminating the news that on June 16th a fake alien invasion would take place, backed by a secret cabal of billionaires, as a new form of social control.
Now, I’m not saying I believed in this invasion, but I couldn’t thoughtlessly dismiss it either. Nothing in the theory was beyond human ingenuity, after all. We are not talking about ‘real’ aliens, or any technology that defies the laws of physics. Perhaps Area 51was where they worked on the fakeflying saucers all along. At least it would be a change to life as we know it, and more like living in a bad sci-fi series.
As a long time student of Robert Anton Wilson ( http://www.rawilson.com), I have learned to be sceptical of conspiracy theories, whilst acknowledging that some conspiracies are real. I tend not to believe in the idea that there is a secret all powerful society that runs the world, partly because I have serious doubts about how much of life any humans can control. It also occurs to me that if our secret rulers were all powerful, why would they bother hiding themselves. Nevertheless, I also acknowledge that many people come together to plot and conspire for their own ends everyday, with varying degrees of secrecy, success, and failure.
This is where my second story of conspiracy comes in, as a possible background to the madness of our modern world. A couple of months ago I watched a truly terrifying documentary on YouTube, entitled “JFK to 911 Everything Is A Rich Man’s Trick” ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1Qt6a-vaNM). If you decide to watch it, let me warn you, it’s a long and disturbing movie, and you must keep your critical thinking faculties sharp whilst viewing, and afterwards.
The basic thesis of the video is that our lives have been manipulated, at least from WW1 onwards, by ultra-wealthy fascists for their own ends. I can not swear to the veracity of all that is said, but what facts I have been able to check out appear to be true. You should always be careful, however, to be sure you can differentiate between facts and speculation; especially if you find the speculation appealing (it’s been known since the philosophy of antiquity, that we tend to more readily believe in things and people that support our own world view).
When it comes to the more enthusiastic conspiracy theorists, I have often wondered, how they would be able to spread the secret of some all powerful society so easily. After all, whistle blowers like Assange and Snowden have felt the consequences of spilling the secrets of powerful organisations. Surely, if the secret society is so powerful, you would find yourself dead before you ever got a chance to spill the beans (I have no fear of this fate, because I have the Big Monkey Cult to protect me).
There are some conspiracies I hear about that I do take seriously, which brings us back to the topic of the European Referendum. Amongst the arguments and lies being reported, was the news that, no matter which way the vote goes, the hard-right of the Conservative Party (colloquially known as the ‘Tories’, the party in power at present) are conspiring to force out David Cameron, the current British Prime Minister (PM), and leader of the Tories. This would mean that only the 330 members of the Conservative Parliamentary Party would be eligible to vote for their next leader, who would automatically become the next PM; does that sound like democracy in action to you?
Without the European Union (EU) to protect us, we could soon have a British Government that is so far to the right that it is Fascist in all but name. This is a government that has already said it wants to abolish human rights. How soon will that extend to workers’ rights, and environmental protections? The Tories are already impoverishing the majority of the population, and selling off the country’s assets, all to make the wealthiest even richer. If they no longer have to adhere to EU laws and regulations, who will stop them?
If you want to see how far towards fascism the Tories want to take us, just have a look at the guy many of them favour for PM, Boris Johnson, the recently ex-mayor of London, and Britain’s equivalent of Donald Trump. The problem with Boris is that many people think he is funny, a clown, or buffoon. Unfortunately, I sincerely believe this easily mockable persona is a put on, to disguise the vile, hate-filled, racist he is at heart. In other words, he is the living embodiment of the Conservative Party.
Remember, during his rise to power before WW2, the British public and media often referred to Hitler as, “that funny little man in Germany”.
If after the EU referendum, the vote is to leave, I think we British could quickly find ourselves living in a Facist country, run by a political party which is already being investigated for electoral fraud ( http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/tories-election-fraud-electoral-commission-probe-investigation-criminal-police-a7026141.html). Their planned boundary changes for the next General Election are designed to make it incredibly hard to ever vote the Tories out, yet they still have the cheek to claim we live in a democratic society, and it is some how the EU that oppresses us.
Unless you are a billionaire and/or a racist, you have no reason to go along with Tory plans, so please, for the sake of the rest of us, if you are able to vote in tomorrow’s referendum, please vote to remain as part of the European Union. If you don’t, you may not like the country you find yourself living in.
Love & peace,
Zero

I had a happy birthday!

In my youth, my birthday plans have sporadically ended in disaster, which for quite a while caused me to almost ignore the occasion completely. My fabulous wife and great friends, however, would not allow that state of affairs to continue, so in recent years, my birthday celebrations have become more enjoyable with every passing year.
This weekend, I had one of my best birthdays yet; eighteen friends accompanied Zooty and me on a train trip to nowhere, via the Bluebell Steam Railway, wearing full steampunk attire. We showed some friends who haven’t dressed up in public before, how much fun it can be, as so many strangers want to talk to you, smile at you, or take your photo.
There were lots of highlights, but I would like to take this opportunity to thank Karla and Graham for bringing their gramophone, so I could watch my friends dancing on the station platform to appropriately vintage music. It is the sort of memory I hope will stick with me for the rest of my life.
After the train journey, more friends joined me at home for a delightful party. I’ll leave the details of the debauchery to your imagination, but let me tell you that it is amazing how much fun people can have with a foam rubber deep sea diving helmet.
Unfortunately, after a very active day, I had to give up and go to bed at 4am Sunday morning, and thanks to the pain, only managed to get to sleep at 1am on Monday. That is why it has taken this long to update my blog.
Once again, I would like to stress, one of my secrets of being a positive cripple, is that I have a wonderful wife and a great chosen family, so that I feel loved. If your friends don’t make you feel the same way (but as you’re a member of the Big Monkey Cult, they probably do) I suggest you find different friends.
My birthday left me feeling inspired. This has been my positive post; please look out for my up and coming post about politics, conspiracy theories, and “the end of the world”, sometime soon.
Love & peace,
